The Brigade
The Bourke HQ Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer fire service for the Barwon/Darling Zone. The Brigade is a part of the NSW Rural Fire Service, which is the largest volunteer fire service in the world. The Brigade's area is roughly 8500 square kilometres extending roughly halfway to Cobar, Byrock,Brewarrina, Enngonia, Louth, and toward Fords Bridge, and Wanaaring a short distance. The Brigade's area does not include the town of Bourke as this falls under NSW Fire and Rescue's jurisdiction.
Incidents and Activities
The Brigade attends a range of different incidents and activities every year. The most common incidents are bush/grass fires with an occasional structure fire or motor vehicle incident. Other activities include hazard reductions through mitigation work and community education. The Brigade believes in helping out the community as best it can and has worked with SES to conduct flood operations and NSW Health during the COVID pandemic.
