How to Join
Joining the Bourke HQ Rural Fire Brigade is relatively straight-forward. All applicants are required to fill out a membership form which can either be a physical paper copy obtainable from the Bourke RFS Control Centre or by filling out an online application via the main NSW RFS website.
If you filled in a physical form, you need to deliver it to the Bourke RFS Control Centre. The Bourke RFS Control Center details can be found at the bottom of the page. Otherwise if you filled in the online form, follow the directions listed on the main RFS website.
What happens next?
The Bourke RFS Control Centre will then contact the Brigade Captain to organise an interview. The interview will cover the types of things involved with being a volunteer and what the Service expects from its members. You will need to bring along 100 points of identification for this interview.
If your application is successful, you will be accepted as a probationary member of the Brigade for a minimum of six months. At the end of your probationary period the Brigade will hold a vote to determine your acceptance as an ordinary member. During your probation period, you may undertake designated activities and training.
Things to be Aware of
The Brigade does not accept applicants under the age of 16. Applicants aged 16 and 17 must have parent consent to apply. Background checks and a criminal history check will be conducted after your application form has been submitted and your interview has been conducted. If any flags are raised during this process, the application will be denied. The applicant can pursue to have the decision challenged if required.
